DXA (BONE DENSITOMETRY)

What is DXA?

A Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) test is a bone density study used to determine whether or not you have osteoporosis or low bone mass. It is a fast, safe and painless test that measures bone strength and can predict your risk for bone fracture. This test can also be used to detect tiny spinal fractures using Vertebral Fracture Assessment or VFA. In some cases, DXA is used to monitor response to specific medications.

Unparalleled fracture risk assessment

The High Definition Instant Vertebral Assessment (IVA-HD) enables us to identify spine fractures with a fast, low-dose, single energy image that delivers twice the resolution that was previously available. In addition, the innovative CADfx quantifies the degree of vertebral compression and simplifies IVA interpretation.

In advance of your exam, please let the patient representative, radiologist or technologist know if you have had an MRI or CT scan within one (1) week of your scheduled appointment.

If you are pregnant, please tell our patient representative.

Hologic Discovery C

Our new Hologic Discovery is an advanced DXA bone densitometer, combining the proven clinical value of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) measurement and vertebral fracture assessment for analysis of the two most important factors related to osteoporosis risk. Unlike other DXA systems, our Discovery utilizes Hologic's exclusive OnePass linear fan-beam technology to improve the speed, accuracy and convenience of assessing osteoporosis. In addition, the advanced Computer-Aided Fracture Assessment (CADfx) provides our radiologists with added tools to assist in detecting tiny fractures.
