Ultrasound
Abdomen and Aorta Ultrasound:
- Do not drink or eat after midnight on the evening prior to your exam. Doing so increases your chance of having a nondiagnostic study, as gas in your GI tract blocks the transmission of sound used by the ultrasound device.
Pelvic, Obstetrical/Fetal, and Kidney/Renal Ultrasound:
- Please drink 32 ounces of water one half hour prior to your exam.
- DO NOT VOID until your exam is complete; a full bladder is needed for an accurate scan.
Appendix, Breast, Carotid, Musculoskeletal, Shoulder, and Testicular Ultrasound:
- No preparation is required.
